This Shark bit off more than she could chew on “The View.”
After cohost Whoopi Goldberg made a self-deprecating remark about pandemic weight gain during the ABC morning talk show Thursday, guest and self-made businesswoman Barbara Corcoran followed up with a remark that gave Goldberg pause — and upset plenty of viewers. She later apologized in a tweet.
Corcoran and fellow judges Mark Cuban and Daymond John were on “The View” ahead of “Shark Tank’s” season 13 premiere, when entrepreneur Emma Grede will make history as the first Black female guest “Shark” on the show. Grede co-founded the size-inclusive Good American denim brand with Khloe Kardashian in 2016, and Goldberg cracked a joke about trying on the jeans to see if they would “fit this COVID (butt)” while gesturing at her derrière.
After Narrow joked that the jeans “fit this COVID (butt)” while motioning toward her own backside, Corcoran chimed in with: “When you get finished with those jeans and decide you don’t like them, give them to me — I’m going to make two pairs.”
Goldberg didn’t laugh, and there was a smattering of boos from the audience. Watch the awkward exchange here.
Many viewers soon called Corcoran out on Twitter for the “rude” and “insensitive” remark. So Corcoran apologized to Goldberg in a video she posted to Twitter later on Thursday, captioning it with, “Love ya Whoopi.”
“I made a joke at Whoopi’s expense, which I now realize wasn’t funny,” Corcoran said. “For anyone who I may have offended unintentionally, I just wanted to say I really am very sorry.”
Goldberg appeared to have accepted the apology, commenting on Friday morning, “Barbara we have been friends forever and I know your humor, I knew you were kidding.”
The exchange led both women’s names to trend on Google and Twitter on Friday morning.

It came as Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Adele also made headlines on Friday for a British Vogue interview calling out all of the ink spilled over her weight loss ahead of her new album.
“I did it for myself and not anyone else,” she said, explaining that exercise helped ease her anxiety. “It was never about losing weight, it was always about becoming strong and giving myself as much time every day without my phone. I got quite addicted to it. I work out two or three times a day.”
