Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune” debuted with $40.1 million in ticket sales in its opening weekend in North America. AT&T’s
T,
Warner Bros. released the Legendary Entertainment production simultaneously in theaters and streaming on HBO Max.
In a statement to Variety last year, Villeneuve said he disagreed with the decision to have a simultaneous streaming of his movie. “With this decision AT&T has hijacked one of the most respectable and important studios in film history,” he said.
