: More Americans are ready to attend live events — with one venue a clear No. 1

More adults say they plan to attend at least one live event or attraction in the fourth quarter of the year than the first three quarters combined. Some 61% of people say they’re ready to mingle in the fourth quarter, versus 51% earlier in the year.

No. 1 on their list: movie theaters.  Nearly one quarter had already planned to attend as of the Sept. 29 to Oct. 4 polling dates, with 34% planning to attend before the end of the year, according to a survey by Bankrate.com.

Warner Bros. released the Legendary Entertainment production simultaneously in theaters and streaming on HBO Max.

In a statement to Variety last year, Villeneuve said he disagreed with the decision to have a simultaneous streaming of his movie. “With this decision AT&T has hijacked one of the most respectable and important studios in film history,” he said.

“Streaming services are a positive and powerful addition to the movie and TV ecosystems. But I want the audience to understand that streaming alone can’t sustain the film industry as we knew it before COVID,” he wrote.

Next up in Bankrate’s popularity poll: Amusement parks, zoos and aquariums. That was followed by fairs, festivals and/or carnivals (21% of those surveyed had already been to one and 28% said they would go by the end of the year).

As the rate of COVID-19 vaccinations in the U.S. now hovers at close to 58%, young adults said they’re more likely to attend public events or attractions, adding that they are also more likely to incur debt to do so.
