Comcast Corp. dragged down other cable stocks Monday following downbeat commentary from a company executive about the state of the broadband market.
The cable industry has seen pressure in recent years, partly reflecting new competition in the market for home-internet offerings. Not only do Comcast
CMCSA, Charter Communications Inc. CHTR and Altice USA Inc. ATUS have to compete against traditional cable providers, but they also have to fend off supercharged efforts by AT&T Inc. T, Verizon Communications Inc. VZ and T-Mobile US Inc. TMUS to make further inroads into broadband.
